How to Measure Ring Size at Home: A Practical Guide

Getting the right ring size at home is possible when you measure carefully and check the result more than once. The most reliable approach is to measure a ring that already fits the intended finger, then compare its inside diameter with a sizing chart.

Two ways to measure ring size at home

Method What you need Best for
Measure an existing ring Ruler with millimetres The most accurate home check
Measure the finger Paper strip and ruler When no suitable ring is available

Method 1: measure a ring that already fits

  1. Choose a ring worn on the same finger and hand.
  2. Place it flat on a ruler.
  3. Measure the inside diameter from inner edge to inner edge in millimetres.
  4. Compare that number with the size chart on the product page.

Method 2: measure the finger

Wrap a narrow paper strip around the widest part of the finger without pulling tightly. Mark where the ends meet, measure the length in millimetres and repeat the process at least twice.

When should you measure?

Finger size can change with temperature and time of day. Measure near the end of the day at a comfortable room temperature. Avoid measuring immediately after exercise or when hands are unusually cold.

Choosing between two sizes

If the result falls between sizes, consider the ring width and how the wearer prefers the fit. A wider band can feel tighter than a slim design. Always use the sizing information on the individual product page.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use string to measure my finger?

Paper is preferable because string can stretch or tighten unevenly.

Are both hands the same size?

Not always. Measure the exact finger and hand on which the ring will be worn.

How many times should I measure?

Measure at least twice. If the results differ, repeat the process later before ordering.
